Hello World: Finally
Excited to finally have an outlet for all the things (one that I own at least). My first ''post'' being called Hello world is fitting and intentional.
Hello, World is the first thing most people make a computer say. Brian Kernighan used it in a 1972 tutorial for the B programming language, and it showed up again in The C Programming Language in 1978. Since then it's become the ritual first step for anyone learning to code: get the machine to say something back to you, prove the setup works, then go build the real thing.
print("Hello, world!")
That's where I am.
Two things are true at once
I'm a pharmacist. I got into this profession because I wanted to help people, and after all these years that hasn't faded. If anything it's sharper. I've seen what happens when a patient doesn't understand their medication, when a workflow wastes a pharmacist's time on something a computer should handle, when the care we want to give gets slowed down by clunky systems.
The second thing is newer. Over the last few years I've been building software (and the brands that make people use them). Not in a "took a weekend course" way. In a "shipped things, broke things, rewrote them, shipped more things" way. Databases, APIs, front ends, security, deployment, the whole uncomfortable stretch of going from an idea to something a real person can click on.
What I'll write about here
The topics I keep circling back to:
- Pharmacy practice and healthcare: what's working, what's broken, and where I think things are headed
- Technology: software, AI tools that actually help (and the ones that don’t), anything I'm learning about
- Career stuff: lessons I've learned, including the decisions, misfires, and “I wish someone told me this earlier” moments
- Personal & Interests: outside of work I'm a dad of 2, into fast cars, collecting Pokemon and sports cards, music, and a whole lot more
Some posts will be long. Some will be a paragraph.
I hope what I write about brings value and...helps people.
Hello, world.
